Become A Whistleblower
The Dodd-Frank Act has allowed many who become whistleblowers, to benefit from the information that they give to the government. The whistleblower act protects those who turn in companies who have violated laws and trade agreements. At least 10% of the monies recovered from the companies, is paid to the whistleblower. The whistleblower is also protected by law against retaliation from those who are turned in. This act was created in order to avoid another financial crisis like the one we had in 2008.
Why Should I Become A Whistleblower?
Certain companies are violating the securities, and exchange rules, and are fraudulently trading, or practicing business in a fraudulent manner. These businesses can cause a future financial crisis, and many people in the past have kept silent under the fear of losing their jobs. The whistleblower act now allows those who know something about a company's fraudulent activities, to come forward, without the fear of being prosecuted, or losing their job.
Once the information is reported, the government can go into action against the company that has committed the fraud. If the fraud exceeds $1 million or more, the whistleblower can receive anywhere from 10%-30% of the monies recovered. If the whistleblower receives less than 10%, or over 30% of monies recovered, they can appeal the judgment, as per the whistleblower's agreements.
Although it's not an easy thing to be a whistleblower, it can potentially help to save millions of dollars in the future, and bring to justice, those who commit fraud. If you see a company committing securities fraud, report them as soon as possible, without fear of repercussions.
